Neck Maple Ebony
Neck Maple Ebony
How much does the wood that the neck and body of an electric guitar affect the sound and tone of the guitar?
I've been looking a several different electric guitars and they all seem to be made of different sorts of woods. I've seen necks made of maple, rosewood, and ebony and bodies made out of maple, koa, ash, mahogany, spruce, alder, nato, and agathis. I'm no expert on wood, so please try to keep your response simple to understand.
Thanks!
Harder, denser woods will resonate more. Mahogany has a deeper tone than ash which in turn sounds completely different than koa or korina. Basswood, very light, doesnt transfer sound vibration as well so guitars made from it doesnt have a lot of sustain. My guitar is a custom made Les Paul-copy with a chambered mahogany body and mahogany neck with a maple cap on the body and a rosewood fret board...sustain for days!!!!
