How to choose a guitar pills?
I play a Gibson Les Paul, but I personally hate them burstbuckers. Now my two options are a APH-1 Alnico II Pro Humbucker set. Or the whole hot rodded with SH-2 Jazz neck and SH-4 JB bridge. I love the sound of the two, but I use a Marshall Vintage Modern, by control what my distortion and clean with my guitar volume and tone controls. My main question is which is better under APH or ouput as high performance as the hot-rodded set. It could also give me reasons. Remember I'm looking for pills that can allow me to use the volume controls. Thank you. BTW play almost all genres, except classical and metal. So jazz rock, classic rock, alternative rock, Christian, etc. Mostly classical and alternative however. Alright I decided to get the output method low, but now my options are Alnico Pro II fixed or Gibson '57 Classic. I've heard great things about both pickups so I want to hear the views of thanks.
JB, are some of the best all-around "pickups I've used. Not necessarily excel at any style or sound, but it sounds good in almost all of them. The just do not think is good is a metal supernasty distorted tone - I can get one, but it's just not exactly what I really want as far as it goes. You can get great rock sound, a clean and decent jazz sound, etc. Not too trebly, not too Bassy, as I said, the tone is more balanced "fine." The JB's not so hot compared to a lot of other pills - you will be able to use the volume pot to control volume / gain, etc. You can also strengthen your volume / tone pots - the welding of a resistance through the appendices (IIRC) to increase the burden on the pills, which changes its frequency response. You may want to pot loading Google "or" guitar load resistor pot ', I forget where I found the information out. You can also tone down the JB further reducing the collection of strings, too, especially the low side (which is good practice anyway). PS His tone is more than your pills ... and just because Slash uses does not automatically mean they are okay. With its platform and style that he could put in vans crappy there and it would sound like. The Alnico pickups are good sounding, no doubt. I just like the JB's more - with a decent tone in a little more output hot is no problem with me! Saul
